Hey! How’s it going?

It’s quite possible my last post (that I actually published) was made during the pandemic lockdown. As you can see, I’ve once again changed the Title and the look of my site. The last iteration was one to resemble a portfolio-type situation. I liked what I had, but it no longer suited what I really wanted to do with my site. I originally started this blog back in 2014 to write. There are things I want to write about. This is something I want to build.

My mom always asked, “Why don’t you do something with writing?”

My mom was asking me this question as I struggled with the, “What do I want to do when I grow up?” question well before the internet was even a thing. Neither she nor I could’ve imagined that a whole world awaited writers on the internet. And so here I am. I may not be as young as I once was, and I am nowhere near as young as the tech geniuses who are getting their starts younger and younger these days, but what I do have is a life full of experience and a heart full of love to do what I can to serve.

In Jesus’ “Parable of the Talents” found in the book of Matthew…

Jesus tells of the servants who were given talents and what they did with them. You can read the whole parable here, but essentially, I want to be the servant who returns ten talents for the five given. God has blessed me with a desire to write, insatiable curiosity and an active imagination. I want to show my gratitude for these gifts he’s given me through service to his people.

There is still a lot to learn

I thought by now, I’d know everything. Actually, that’s not really true. At 26, I remember the precise moment when I was sitting on my matchbox-sized deck overlooking the communal swimming pool at my apartment complex on Pantano Road. I was smoking a Marlboro Light in the oppressive heat of an August afternoon in Tucson when it struck me that I knew relatively little. It was that moment that I knew I’d discovered one real truth.

The good news is that I’m not so imprisoned by an overblown ego that I consider myself above learning. There’s always more to learn, and I want to learn it all (within reason – there’s some stuff that I doubt I’ll ever be interested in – I could give examples, but I have learned a thing or two over the years about sticking my foot in my mouth…), but the other stuff – ALL OF IT – bring it on!

And then…

I want to share what I’m learning with you. I do love to teach, and in this format I don’t have to worry about behavior issues or busting anyone for vaping in the bathroom! My method of teaching, however, is more like sharing as in, “Hey! I discovered this great thing, and I want to share it with you!”

Exploring the outdoors is one passion of mine. There are so many marvelous trails and places to find yourself while getting lost right up in my neck of the woods. I want to share my adventures in order to help you feel confident to hit the trail and experience God’s great grandeur.

There are also things I NEED to know about like: “How in the heck am I going to help my kids pay for college?” For those of you faced with that same question, I plan to share everything I learn in answering it for myself. My hope is that in so doing, I can help you find interesting and creative ways to accomplish this daunting task without racking up debt.

Additionally, I will report what I learn about the power gratitude, goal setting, and all things aimed at motivating a person to have the courage to live his or her best life.

Get ready to join me on a great adventure

There will be bumps along the way. I will make cringe-worthy mistakes more often than I like to think about. But as Thomas Jefferson said, “With great risk comes great reward.”
